More hairpin lace crochet scarves

POSTSCRIPT
It snowed and there is a little on the ground near me so I will be traveling around the city today to find more snow. I got a few photos at 3:00 AM and it snowed a bit while I was walking around. . . NOW I have to find more since that is all we got this close to the Columbia River which is near sea level. Going to travel by bus to other parts of town to find the deeper snow. Finally snow on the ground near me. . . I know that some think I am nuts but I LOVE SNOW!

Our church group crocheted and knitted red scarves for college students that are orphans or foster kids. I understand it is a project all over the US and people everywhere participate. Our little group made 37 -- I made 5. We had three weeks to do it. I used a variety of red yarns to make these.

This shows the pattern of the latest scarf I made. I have to finish up the ends yet.

This is a new type of yarn I am experimenting with. It is very soft and bulky too. I think I am going to like it!

One more hairpin lace crochet scarf ready to go

I fell in love with this variegated blue and purple yarn but there was only a small amount and no way enough for a whole scarf. (We are using donated yarn so can't be choosey.)

Thus, I made two white strips to go on the inside and I love how it turned out. I also made three inch wide strips which are more loose than the ones I made previously.

Still working on the afghan for a child's bed, two cape shawls and a crocheted dishcloth. One day! Ü

More projects completed . . .

Last month, I started working on hairpin lace crochet projects with a group of ladies from my church who either knit or crochet. I got in on the tail end of a mission project for an orphanage in Mexico and made three hats and scarves with hairpin lace crochet.

Now we are focusing on a mission that is in Vancouver. We are making things for our Veterans who are in the hospital but can shop in a special room of donated things and send two to their families free of charge or postage.

So far, I have 4 neck scarves made for this -- two I have already blogged about. The two latest are:

i also have all the rows crocheted for two cape shawls -- one is white and silver and the other, a pale blue and silver. i am now crocheting the rows together with silver crochet cotton. I am liking what i see but am not ready to photograph them. I have NEVER crocheted with crochet thread in my life! Well, before now, I mean. I am also trying to learn to make straight rows crocheting dish cloths.

My latest project is an afghan for a girl's bed. it will be all pale colors but multicolored. i have 4 rows of 300 made so far. It will take at least 12-15 more rows. I am using baby yarn for it. It will fit a twin size bed.It will be awhile before I get it finished. I hope I get it finished in the next two weeks so it can go to the Vets before Christmas.

Two more hairpinlace crochet item completed . . .

This one is a shade of rose with silver flecks in it. I almost have the green one like it finished -- just working on the fringed edges. In between, I ahve almst completed two shawls -- have all the rows made and now jsut need to crochet them together. They are cape shawls and so pretty. More to come in another post.

I made this green with silver specs one a little smaller as it was difficult to see with my poor eyesight. It is for a child while the rose one is for an adult.

Hats and scarves for orphanage . . .

Well, i got in on this project a bit late but i made three sets to go with the other 97 sets the other ladies had made. there is going to be a bunch of happy, warm kids this winter!
i had never made a hat before with hairpin lace crochet. I got a pattern/directions on the internet and there is no way on earth that a child could fit their head into it so I folded it in and added a little tie string and then doubled up the neck scarf to make it for a small child.

The next one, I loved the multi-colors of purple, pink and yellow but it seemed a bit strong so I added a white strip in the middle of the neck scarf and some on the hat also.

My final one is a pastel multicolored set.

i enjoyed making the neck scarves but the hats are very tedious and doubt I will make any more of them.
