More projects completed . . .

Last month, I started working on hairpin lace crochet projects with a group of ladies from my church who either knit or crochet. I got in on the tail end of a mission project for an orphanage in Mexico and made three hats and scarves with hairpin lace crochet.

Now we are focusing on a mission that is in Vancouver. We are making things for our Veterans who are in the hospital but can shop in a special room of donated things and send two to their families free of charge or postage.

So far, I have 4 neck scarves made for this -- two I have already blogged about. The two latest are:

i also have all the rows crocheted for two cape shawls -- one is white and silver and the other, a pale blue and silver. i am now crocheting the rows together with silver crochet cotton. I am liking what i see but am not ready to photograph them. I have NEVER crocheted with crochet thread in my life! Well, before now, I mean. I am also trying to learn to make straight rows crocheting dish cloths.

My latest project is an afghan for a girl's bed. it will be all pale colors but multicolored. i have 4 rows of 300 made so far. It will take at least 12-15 more rows. I am using baby yarn for it. It will fit a twin size bed.It will be awhile before I get it finished. I hope I get it finished in the next two weeks so it can go to the Vets before Christmas.

JennymcB . . . lookie, lookie!!!!!!!!

Look what I am learning to make as of this morning!!!!! Crocheted dish cloths!!!!!!!! Some of the other ladies are knitting them but I don't know how to knit. hehehehe Are you jealous? Actually they are very easy to crochet, using a single crochet stitch. I don't know how this one will turn out but hoping to make great looking ones before long!

"Mission" accomplished!

A small group of ladies from my church made 100 sets of hats and scarves for an orphanage in Mexico. The children will have them for this winter. The lady that is taking them to the orphanage already has 25 sets but this is the rest of them:

Hairpinlace crochet

The ladies at my church are making 100 scarves and hats for an orphanage in Mexico. They call it "Knitting With a Mission." Not all the ladies knit tho and I am one that does not.

My scarves and hats will be made with hairpin lace crochet. You use a small loom to single crochet up the middle and connect strips. Then you add fringe at the ends of the scarf and a ball on the top of the hat. The photos will help to explain it a lot better than I can.

This is the loom and crochet hook I use with a small portion of the needlework finished. The loom has adaptable holes to make the project wider or narrower. As you can see, this is quite narrow so that it will be warm using a single strand of yarn.

The whole row is finished and taken off the loom.

Two rows are crocheted together and form a wider row down the middle.

This shows a close up of three rows.

These are the finished rows. Now I have to fix the end edges and add fringe and it is complete.

This is the beginning of the hat.

I ended up making it into a toddler hat with a tie string because it was definitely the wrong dimensions . . . where did I go wrong? I doubled the neck scarf to make it smaller too before adding the fringe.Oh well, they have little ones at the orphanage too. On to my second try, going to make a bigger one now that I ahve the jist of it again.
