PHOTO HUNTERS #18--- CURVY

PHOTO HUNTERS HOME

I didn't like this theme. I figure there will be many photos of curvy ladies. . . I was trying to avoid the obvious and found a couple in recent photos I took on a walk downtown.

The first one is a historical building called KIGGINS. It houses a theater and some other shops. It was built when architecture was more important than fast , unimaginative, cheap buildings.

The other entry I have is a painting on a van. . . the stripes on the flag are wavy.

If you really want to see another wavy photo , look below at my post about hairpin lace. . .

Next week the theme is smelly. I may bypass that one altogether. . . probably be just a bunch of socks or feet photos and you can't really smell them. . . maybe someone will get creative and find some smokestacks or a restaurant kitchen or a garbage can. YUP! I think I will take a week off next time.

PHOTO HUNTERS #14 MUSIC

PHOTO HUNTERS HOME
I wasn't sure what I would post for this this week's theme since I am not musically inclined although I had years of piano lessons as a child and am a current member of my church bell choir.

I found an old photo of a small banner I designed for our bell choir. . . that reminds me that I should try to get another photo since this one is all catawampus!

Our town has a park called Esther Short Park and a part of it is called Propestra Square after the donor of the bell tower seen below. It is a beautiful piece of art also because it depicts the story of the salmon runs and the Chinook Indians in our area when Vancouver was first discovered 150 years ago. The bells play musically 4 times a day at 9:00, 12:00, 3:00 and 6:00. At this time, a panel also opens and the story of the Chinook Indians is demonstrated by a recording of a story and 3-dimensional art work panels. It is all set to music of the bells.

When I taught preschool, I had a TA that was learning to play bells and she had a small personal set that she used to teach a lesson to my children in small groups. This is only part of them.

I had a small class of just 5 Kindergarteners when a new Lutheran school opened. We performed a song called "On Eagles Wings" for the church one Sunday during Lutheran School's Week.

Here, the same class performed it for their grandparents at a special TEA we sponsored to celebrate our grandparents.

PHOTO HUNTERS #12 HAPPY

PHOTO HUNTERS HOME

I subbed for a teacher friend who got this HAPPY hat from her principal after winter break. I couldn't talk her into giving it to me! (I collect snowmen memorabilia.)

My second HAPPY photo is a picture of two of my former Kindergarten students digging into the rice table for the first time. Now don't you think they look happy?

PHOTO HUNTERS #9 -- CREATIVE

Click on photo to enlarge to see all the details. I spotted this garden art on one of my walks in a former neighborhood.

This art was painted by local artists on the trestle of a railroad track crossing over the road.

Some local artists painted a long section in panels depicting the military history of our country along the retaining wall of the railroad tracks above it. This is just one sectin of their long mural.

My Kindergarten class and their families created these turkey disguises one year. I thought they were pretty creative!

PHOTO HUNTERS #6 --FAKE

Photo Hunters Website

I thought for sure that i would have to opt out this entry because I could not think of anything fake. I didn't have any fake eyelashes nor did I have any fake fingernails. I couldn't even tell one soul to come visit mine because I wouldn't have one.
:o(

Well, it finally dawned on me that I had a subject right in front of my nose. About 20 years ago i was with a group of ladies that made these FAKE flowers. I loved them back then so i guess that's why I still have them.

They are made out of Christmas prints in taffeta material. The artificial (fake also) leaves are ones that belong to a rose and yet the flower looks more like a tulip. YES! This set of flowers is definitely fake.

PHOTO HUNTERS #5

Photo Hunters Website

The theme this week is sweet. I knew just which photo I wanted to share. . .

This is one of my former students eating their "chocolate pizza." Greg and Steve have a song that includes lyrics about "chocolate pizza." We talked about what that might look like and we made our own for a cooking experience. I bought already formed rice krispie bars which the kids opened the package and placed the bar on the wrapper and then flattened with their hands. Next, they added a heaping spoonful of chocolate pudding which they had helped make earlier and added topping of M and M's. Now DOESN'T that photo look sweet to you? Child is a sweetie anyway. . . so sweets for the sweetie.

The other photo I immediately thought about with this theme is this one:

Surely that Dahlia has some sweet nectar for its visitors?

PHOTO HUNTERS #4

Photo Hunters Website

Well, it wasn't easy to come up with something for SHINY this week. I looked everywhere I went since I always take my digital camera along. I took some photos of sunsets but the sun was too bright/shiny and they did not come out well. I wasn't sure what I was going to do. I figured if worse came to worse, I would take a photo of a shiny penny.

Then I remembered the card my friend Ronda sent me with shiny (glitter on plastic) leaves. If I could manage to take a photo of it, without the flash glare, it might work. I know, I know. Not as good an entry as my three "hairs" last week but should be acceptable. The card is really beautiful and I am going to try some before fall to send to special people. I love learning new techniques with card making but that's for my other blog so better just stick to topic of "shiny" here.

Next week's "SWEET" is going to be another challenge. Maybe I can do some people watching and find something sweet there instead of concentrating on food sweets. We'll see. . . Then again, I might dig into my photo collection.

PHOTO HUNTERS #3--hair

Photo Hunters Website

My granddaughter is getting married this weekend so in case I don't get time to post my entry, I am doing it a bit early. . .
Photo Hunters theme this week is “hair.” I thought about taking a photo of myself and show the world my graying hair but . . . I decded I was not ready to do that yet.

I looked all week long for something to photograph that concerned hair. I was getting discouraged since nothing stood out. I even considered photographing the hair that comes out in my brush daily!!!!!!! Then I thought if I was that desperate I could claim ignorance in spelling and use this:

Then, I thought of a cute photo I had taken of one of my last Kindergarten students. . . his red hair was certainly something that stood out and his caricature he made of himself in September to use all year with different art projects would be a cute photo. . . .

THEN, it dawned on me that I had the best entry for hair from a trip to the zoo with my Kindergarten class. . . and here it is!

One of these should be the perfect “hair” photo for my entry -- I’ll let you decide. Now on to hunting for something shiny for next week.

My first Photo Hunter entry. . .

Photo Hunters Website

This is my first photo entry for the PHOTO HUNTERS weekly challenge. The original painting was done by one of my 4 year old preschoolers that I had the priviledge to teach this past year. Each time I look at it, I see something new. I like the depth and how your eye is drawn to the light of that depth.

The way some schools today are so into testing and shoving the curriculum down the grades, this young artist may never get to have additional opportunities to paint expressively like this gem again. It's so sad that there is no time for "exploring" the arts in many schools today. Where are our great artists going to come from in the future?

Post script:

Zhel, a teacher that posts on Tnet chatbaord wrote this description of my preschooler's painting:

"What I see is: the observer is just about to exit a forest and
walk toward a waterfall. The waterfall is red, on the right
side. There is a perfect red tree on the left side, and
various herbs at the foreground, waving in the breeze. The
clear lake water is visible at the middle of the picture, with
some trees' reflection."

Isn't it wonderful when others can see the "art' in a small child's painting?
