ABC Wednesday - Year 2 -- #10

Go here if you would like to join us for ABC Wednesday. . . Mrs Nesbitt

This was a difficult task for me this week. I couldn't think of any photos I had already taken to use for "J" nor could I think of any to take. Thus, I resorted to using the dictionary to find a word beginning with "J" and I might have accomplished my mission . . .

I thought about going over to jack in the Box fast food place and take a picture but decided against that. I had a couple boxes of Jello and could take photos of them or better yet, make some Jello and then photograph it. . .maybe a photo of some of my junk jewelry? Nah! Oh, I know! I took some photos of jet streams the other day and I have plenty of jet photos to accompany them since the Portland Airport is just across the river. . . nah, too common. I have to use the dictionary to find one. . .

My word is JUXTAPOSITION.

Now, how am I going to demonstrate that? I know!!!!!!! Wiith card supplies. I need to make my son a birthday card. . . his birthday is in April but it sneaks up on one if you aren't careful. . . My son is a firefighter and I went to three craft places looking for a fire engine, fire hydrant or a fire hose rubber stamp but none were to be found. I did find a tiny fire engine but it looked like a kiddy car and my son is going to be 38!

"JUXTAPOSITION" means "the act of placing two or more things side by side."

OK, these supplies I will need are all "side by side" -- I wonder if that will work?

Somehow, I think I probably need some order to my "side by side" (juxtaposition) -- maybe this?

How about this? Isn't it lining up nicely?

Final product: each piece is placed in an orderly manner side by side. YES! That's JUXTAPOSITION!"

Blog your blessings #14

Go here if you would like to participate: Blue Panther

Saturday was my birthday and my friend Kathy/WA and her hubby came down to Vancouver and picked me up for a SNOW day at Mt. Rainier. Not only did I get to see the snow piled up there and beautifully draped over the trees but I got to try my hand at using snow shoes. It was my first time and no practice when we went with a guide on a short trek. . . (I didn't do well.) I did manage to get a few photos. . .

What a birthday blessing to have friends who know how much I love snow and take me to it. this year. Yes, I know this has been a blessing in different ways several times on my blog already but this is a different slant this time.

For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; . . . Proverbs 25:13 ...

Elaine has another birthday . . .

This is the cover --the front and back covers are cut just a tad bigger than the inside pages and punched and scored for the fold on side. I made the original book pages at Pampered Stampers on one of their free use of tools day. The cover has a rectangular insert that I used the masking tape/Kaliedoscope clear glitter method on. I added a bouquet of flowers I ahd bought to make earlier cards. I had some leftover lettering so decided to personalize it with her name on front.

I used some scrapbooking paper for the backing on this page and a neat friend quote. I placed the cutouts catywampus and added a button to the flower one. The corners of the quote paper were cut with a corner tool also and then framed in blue to contrast with the background design colors.

I wanted to show I use photos in my cards too so used the tulips cut in a disk shape maker, added a ribbon across the page to break up the background and below that I placed to the left a light green paper with a punch of those teensy squares on the top. I added a birthday greeting.

I save all kinds of things to sue in my greeting cards. The musical notes were from a lined envelope and the gold strip of paper was from the flap of an envelope. I added a reversible ribbon, a flower cutout topped by a button and the stamped message framed in a contrasting color. The message is held on with a mini flower brad.

I built this page from the quote that I stamped also at Pampered Stampers. I used my small square punch and made a quilt held together with stips of lilac paper. I added the black ribbon to tie together the words.

Of course, the birthday card book is for a celebration fo Elaine's 80th birthday so I stamped my birthday greeting and added some large flower brads to the center in a catywampus style. The white background is framed in a contrasting color.

The final page is another birthday greeting. I used soem different cutouts and stamped two leaves which i added fall colors to with colored pencils. The two leaves are raised with big dots.
